Alpacas come from the Andes Mountains of South America. They are camelids, and related to camels and llamas. They aren't real big, between 100 and 180 pounds full grown.

Their fiber was known by the indiginous people of the Andes as the fiber of the gods. It is softer than cashmere, warmer than wool and does not have lanolin so it does not itch. It is a hollow fiber, so it wicks moisture away from your body.
